Author: hanstatdg
Subject: Installing AI Aircraft
Posted: 20 November 2008 at 05:20

Jersey Flyer,

Capt Sl is almost correct. You do need to download the Aardvark MD 8x aircraft model. Actually there are two downloads, because Aardvark updated the model.

The files you need are AIA_MD8x.zip and the update AIMD8xFD.zip

The readme files in both downloads tell you how to install.

Unfortunately the author of the American Airlines package didn't give the filenames of the Aardvark downloads.

Once you have installed the aircraft model and update, you then unzip the American Airlines textures in the aircraft model folder, ensuring that you have the 'Use Folder Names' option ticked. You should now find several new folders in the aircaft folder named Texture.xxxxxxx (where xxxxxx are slightly different names). Actually I think all the textures are the same except for the aircraft numbers.

The author has included a file 'CFG.txt' which you have to open and copy the contents to the aircraft's aircraft.cfg file. This has to be done carefully:

1. Copy the contents of CFG.txt.
2. Open the aircraft's aircraft.cfg file and highlight the whole line '//[fltsim.x] sections go here:'
3. Paste the copy there.
4. This is most important. The copy includes several paragraphs headed [fltsim.x]....[fltsim.x+5]. You must renumber them, starting with [fltsim.0]...[fltsim.5].
5. Save aircraft.cfg.

Open UT, and if you have done it all correctly, you will find the textures.

Unfortunately, you have chosen a rather complex download. There are easier ones.

You might find useful an article I have written to help you install aircraft & textures. Goto THIS THREAD and download the hyperlink in the first message. Although written for FSX, it applies to FS2004 as well.

There are two ways to do this:

1. Close UT, then open it again, or

2. With the Aircraft/Airline utility open, there's a small icon, like a circular arrow, near the top right of the window to the right of the heading 'Manufacturer'.
