bullet Topic: Updating FD files
    Posted: 14 July 2005 at 4:50am

You can update aircraft Flight Dynamics  (FD) files on aircraft that you feel are not performing correctly using the PAI FD V6 files (PAI_FDv6_all.zip), you will find them here http://www.projectai.com/libraries/ufiles.php?cat=8 There are also some V6.1 FD files available for a limited number of aircraft at the same location. Only change the FD files for the aircraft you are having problems with, it is very easy to mess it up so follow the steps below, TO THE LETTER, and read thru the procedure a couple of times to make sure you know what you are doing :-

Down Load and Un-zip the FD files into a temp folder OUTSIDE of Flight Simulator

1.       Go to your Flight Simulator\Aircraft folder and select the aircraft you wish to update, for this exercise I will update the B737-800, open it's folder and find the aircraft.cfg file and rename it to aircraft.bak, this will then be your back-up if you mess up.

2.       From the temp folder you made, copy the contents of PAI B738 folder into your Flight One AI 738 folder.

3.       Using word pad open both the new aircraft.cfg file, and delete the following lines, DO NOT DELETE OR CHANGE ANY OTHER LINES.;-

//NOTICE: REMOVE ALL COMMENT INFORMATION AFTER INSTALLATION (//, [ ], <=====)

//NOTICE: IF YOU ARE INSTALLING THIS PAINT KIT FOR THE FIRST TIME, THEN REMOVE THESE THREE (3) COMMENTS

//NOTICE: IF YOU ARE DOWNLOADING THIS PAINT KIT TO OBTAIN THE NEW FDE, THEN FOLLOW THE NEXT INSTRUCTION

=======Highlight all the text below this line, COPY it, and use it to REPLACE the exact same text in your aircraft.cfg file.======

             SAVE the file but leave it OPEN

4.       Open your aircraft.bak file and COPY, DO NOT CUT, ALL your [fltsim.**] entries, they start at [fltsim.0] and go up to however many aircraft you have. (You may find that the [fltsim.**] entries are spread thru the text so make sure you have them all)

5.       Paste the [fltsim.**] entries into your new aircraft.cfg file. Ensure that the [fltsim.**] entries start at [fltsim.0] and run in order to the last one. Then SAVE

6.       Next we have to change the sim= entries in your [fltsim.**] entries, there are 2 methods of doing this, the lazy way were you won't know next time you want to update the FD files what version you are using the lazy way (step 7) or the proper way (step  8).

7.       The LAZY way, you should have 2 .air files in your 738 folder, one called F1AI_738.air, rename this file to F1AI_738.bak, then rename the pai738v6.air file to F1AI_738.air. The update in now complete.

8.       The Proper way, in your open aircraft.cfg file, on the toolbar go to EDIT then REPLACE in the Find What box enter sim=f1ai_738, then in the Replace With box enter sim= pai738v6, then click Replace All, click save and the update is finished.

This method will work for all F1AI aircraft but make sure you have the correct FD file for the aircraft you wish to update. F1AI aircraft are ALL Version 1 models apart from the B737-300 which is a Version 2 model. The MODEL Version is not the FD version they are different things, but the FD file MUST be for the correct model version…..

If you do think you have messed or you think the new FD files are worse than before, then delete the new aircraft.cfg file and rename your aircraft.bak back to aircraft.cfg. If you used the lazy way you will have to delete your new .air file and rename your back-up file to.air again, if you used the proper way you will have to do nothing else.
