Knowledgeable forum members will be aware that by editing item 105 of an aircraft's .air file using AirEd, it is possible to exclude AI aircraft from the list of available aircraft in FS. Most AI aircraft are configured to do this anyway, but occasionally some slip through the net. The advantage of excluding AI aircraft from the FS list is quicker loading time.

The usual way to edit the .air file is to double-click on it, so that it opens automatically in AirEd. However, anyone who has downloaded and installed Adobe Reader 9 will find that this is no longer possible, because Adobe 9 has also used the .AIR extension for a different purpose. The rsult is an error message if you try to open the .AIR file.

The best way to open .air files if you have installed Adobe Reader 9 is to run AirEd and open the file from there.

You will get more information on this topic on the flightsim.com opening page HERE. There is no need to login.

There have been misleading reports that installing Adobe reader 9 corrupts FS, because .air files are not read properly by FS. This is not correct. FS will continue to read aircraft .air files normally. The problem only arises when attempts are made to open .air files by double-clicking on them.
